The Situation

A global bank with 50,000+ employees had independently deployed AI capabilities across 14 business units — Azure OpenAI, ChatGPT Enterprise, GitHub Copilot, and Salesforce Einstein — with no enterprise-level commercial agreements in place. The Approach

We mapped the full AI vendor landscape, identified $3.8M of model redundancy across business units using different vendors for equivalent tasks, and developed a consolidated AI procurement strategy. We negotiated enterprise agreements with Microsoft (Azure OpenAI + Copilot), OpenAI Enterprise, and Anthropic — all with comprehensive data processing addenda tailored to the bank's regulatory environment. Is AI platform pricing actually negotiable for enterprise customers?

Yes — significantly, for enterprise-scale customers. AI vendors' published pricing applies to small-scale API consumers. Enterprise agreements — with volume commitments, data privacy addenda, custom SLAs, and multi-year terms — are negotiated and priced very differently. In our experience, enterprises with $1M+ annual AI spend can achieve 30–50% below list pricing through structured negotiation.

How do we prevent AI vendors from using our data to train their models?

Enterprise agreements with all major AI vendors can include explicit data processing addenda that prohibit the use of your prompts, completions, and data for model training. This requires negotiation — default terms do not always provide this protection. We ensure data training opt-outs, prompt confidentiality, and data retention limitations are included as non-negotiable provisions in every AI enterprise agreement.
